Seatraining

The European nautical-sport facilities are facing new challenges in the staff training field due to the globalization and the increasing importance of the port environment. To solve this, FEPORTS (Port Institute for Studies and Cooperation of the Valencian Region) leads the SEATRAINING Project, an initiative in the training field addressed to nautical facilities employees. The aim of the project, included in the European Leonardo da Vinci’s vocational training programme, consists of providing them with a specific training model for their professional abilities. Thus, SEATRAINING is born as an answer to the new staff needs appeared in the last years as a consequence of the growth of nautical tourism. SEATRAINING is based on the conclusions of GESINPORTS project, co-financed under the Interreg IIIC Community Initiative, which showed important training needs in this sector and a lack of European recognition of the professionals of the nautical-sport sector and it is also inspired on the Maritime Policy Green Paper which declares the need to improve training in the port sector. These lacks have been more visible, especially in the following fields: adequacy of the services offered to users, environmental and port management, security and protection, and information technologies modernization.

From the cooperation among the associations, training and research centres and nautical sector professional staff, SEATRAINING will create a forum of best practicesin which training, security and protection, environmental and port management experiences will be exchanged, in order to improve the effectiveness and quality of the services of the nautical facilities.

SEATRAINING sets up a starting point for the nautical sector increase, as it groups training organizations, national and European company associations as well as businesspeople, so that the main European involved agents can take part in the project. In this process, the first step consists of creating a common catalogue of professional profiles, in such a way that a homogenisation of the recruitment processeses could be carried out, thus facilitating the access to employment in the European market. The next step is the detection of specific training needs of the analysed professional profiles, followed by a creation of a curricular system and the development of a pilot experience, which will test the results of the project. Finally, SEATRAINING will be managed, disseminated and exploited in order to obtain further results by reaching other target groups outside the project pilot experiences. The final results of the project will be presented to the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) since the project is oriented to the achievement of the Quality Certificate promoted by this organization.

The project is leaded by FEPORTS-Instituto Portuario de Estudios y Cooperación de la Comunidad Valenciana (Spain), and its partners are: Federación Española de Asociaciones de Puertos Deportivos y Turísticos (Spain), EUROMARINA-European Federation of Marinas and Yachting Harbours (France), ASSONAUTICA (Italy) and INNOREG (Hungary). The Fundación Comunidad Valenciana-Región Europea (Spain) is subcontracted for the dissemination activities.
